How to Add a New Product (Paneer, Curd, Ghee) in MilkMate — Step by Step

Selling only loose milk is rarely the whole story — most dairies also sell paneer, curd, ghee, or packaged milk from a brand like Amul or Mother Dairy. If your app only has "Cow Milk" and "Buffalo Milk" as options, you can't bill for anything else correctly. Here's exactly how to add a new product in MilkMate, step by step.

Where to add a product

Go to Settings → Milk Rates in the MilkMate app. This is the same screen where you manage your milk rate chart — products live alongside your rates because both feed into billing.

  1. Open Settings from the supplier menu
  2. Tap Milk Rates
  3. Tap the "Add Product" button

What the Add Product form asks for

1. Product Name

Whatever you call it in your own business — "Paneer", "Curd 500g", "Amul Taaza", "Ghee 1L". Up to 50 characters. MilkMate won't let you add two products with the same name (even different capitalisation), so a typo-fix is always caught before it causes confusion later.

2. Unit

Choose the right unit for how you actually sell it:

  • L / ml — for liquids sold by volume (milk, buttermilk)
  • kg / gm — for weighed items (paneer, ghee)
  • pcs / packet — for whole-count items (a packet of curd, a piece of butter) — these only allow whole numbers, no half-packets

3. Rate

Your selling price per unit. This becomes the default rate for every customer, but you can still override it per customer if someone gets a special price.

4. Opening Stock (optional)

If you're tracking inventory for this product, enter how much you currently have on hand. Leave it blank or 0 if you don't need stock tracking for this particular item — not every product needs it.

Once added, it's ready to use: a new product is automatically activated for your account the moment you save it — no separate "enable" step. It immediately shows up when adding a delivery or creating a bill for any customer.

A quick example

Say you've started selling Amul paneer alongside your regular milk delivery:

  • Name: Amul Paneer 200g
  • Unit: packet
  • Rate: ₹95
  • Opening Stock: 20 (if you're tracking how many packets you have)

Save it, and from that point on you can record paneer deliveries the same one-tap way you record milk — and it appears as its own line item on that customer's monthly bill, itemised separately from their milk.

Editing a product later

You can rename a product any time (typo fixes, or your supplier changed the packet size name). The unit can only be changed if that product has never actually been delivered yet — once it's been used in a real delivery, the unit is locked to keep past records accurate and consistent.

If you're running a full packaged-dairy shop (Amul, Mother Dairy, Sumul and similar), see our complete guide on dairy shop management for buying and selling packaged milk for the bigger picture beyond just adding products.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a new product like paneer or curd in MilkMate?

Go to Settings → Milk Rates → Add Product, then enter the product name, unit (L, kg, pcs, etc.), and rate. Opening stock is optional. It's ready to use immediately after saving.

Can I sell products other than milk in MilkMate?

Yes. MilkMate supports any product — paneer, curd, ghee, butter, or packaged milk from any brand — each with its own unit, rate, and itemised billing.

Can two products have the same name?

No, MilkMate blocks duplicate product names within your account (case-insensitive) to prevent confusion between similarly named items.

Can I change a product's unit after creating it?

Only if that product hasn't been delivered to any customer yet. Once it has real delivery records, the unit is locked so past bills stay accurate.
